Tips for Calculating Weekly Average Fuel Purchase:
- When estimating weekly fuel purchases also allow for those longer trips (vacations, Thanksgiving to family gatherings, etc.) and extra fill-ups for non-regular driving needs (e.g., out-of-town excursions, weekends to the cottage). This can add 10% to 20% to many households driving and fuel costs.
- If you often fill up more frequently than once a week, be sure to add to your average fill-up amount. (e.g., If you fill up on average every five days, take your average fill-up and multiply by 1.40 for an average weekly fill-up). Here is an example: If you normally fill every five days and normally put in 40 litres / 10 gallons, then your weekly average fuel purchase is 56 litres (40litres/ 5days X 7 days) or 14 gallons (10 gallons/ 5 days X 7 days).
